Fantastic night out! I was up in Edinburgh for 3 weeks and Thurs night at OOTB became a fixture in my weekly ritual It's well-run, friendly and there is a core of talented folk who come along week after week. In addition to the open mic there is a 40 min slot in the middle when you are treated to a featured artist. I saw 3 Featured acts over my 3 Thurs visits and all were well worth a check on MySpace. They were Sparrahawk (Weird and wonderful and funny songs and poems - All the way from sunny Glasgow) The Beggar Girls - (Too well-dressed for genuine beggars but a great combination of instruments and voices in harmony) Kat Healy - (An inviting performer - heartfelt songs with loads of poignancy) If my 3 visits represent the quality of OOTB artists throughout the year then if I still lived in Embra I'd be there every week. One last thing I noted - and it's complete winner - EVERY artist (yes even if you just play a tune at the open mic) gets a write up n the site. Now that's a useful way to get some nice quotes about yourself - something to stick on the back of your CD case perhaps? Thanks to the OOTB mob (Jim, Lyndsay, Nelson, Rob et al) and I hope to drop in again soon Cheers Michael Dunnigan

If you've been to Edinburgh and not been to this you've not lived. This is one of the best open mics in the country - amazing blend of styles and talent like you wouldn't believe.
Susanna - Feb 05
