Cracking open mic night run in a atmospheric little pub in the heart of Reading. There's no stage per se but the PA's set up in the bottom corner of the pub pointing down the main bar and across an open-ish seating area (VERY limited seats so if you want to sit near the music, arrive early!). This means that you can be heard beautifully from all around the lower half of the pub, including at the bar, which is a nice change. You can ever hear the acts from the smoking area! Despite all this, the music is never interrupted by excessive crowd noise as the non-open-mic-ers have their own area at the front of the pub which is more or less partitioned off (the bar is split in two by a wall/doorway). Sound is excellently mixed by nice guy Mark and the audience are typically respectful but responsive (I've played here quite a few times over the last couple of years and always been impressed). I've never been given less than three songs (in fact I've had four or five on a couple nights) and there's usually a broad spread of musos up for a jam too. All in all, on of my favourites. p.s. look out for beer deals, they used to do a 'bucket of Bud' on the cheap...
