Fri 31st Mar 2017 Oysters3, Hadrian's Union, Julian Lebender
The Goose Is Out!
The Ivy House - 40 Stuart Road London SE15 3BE
Having followed The Oyster Band since more or less their beginnings way back in the mists of time (well, the eighties) we are delighted to be welcoming the three founding members to the Goose for the first time!........... Oysterband from a different angle… By popular demand, Oysters 3 take to the road again in 2017........... John Jones, Alan Prosser and Ian Telfer, the three founder members and creative heart of folk-rock legends Oysterband, invite you to an evening of fresh acoustic performance and off-the-wall stories – an insight into their history, sometimes turbulent, often funny, with great songs from every era of a unique career........... “The very first time we did this, we more or less improvised the show. We were astonished when it went down a storm – and we wondered why on earth we’d never thought of doing it before!”.......... Hadrian’s Union are a five piece Contemporary Folk Rock band from (they say) the debateable lands of England and Scotland........... Their influences include: Lindisfarne, Home Service, Stackridge, Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band - should be an interesting set :).......... ulian is a 19 year old singer/songwriter from Hamburg (Germany) who recently moved to London........... Before starting his music studies in Fulham he had played numerous gigs in his hometown solo and with his former Band “Northern Fall”. Combining folky guitar elements with popular song structures he describes his music as “FolkPop” though emphasizes that he is influenced by more than these two........... Still trying to establish himself in the music scene, he is playing in bars all over London hoping to reach his listeners and to build a small fan base......... Oysters3

Jazz Breakfast With Mike Hatchard
Ropetackle Arts Centre
Little High Street, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG
Another all-star line-up. Two players who are considered the finest exponents on their instrument in the country. Such a claim is always going to be arguable; but not very. Nigel Price is the guitarist’s jazz guitarist – his brilliance is proven by his workload; there are other amazing guitarists out there but nobody is as busy as Nigel – we feel very proud having persuaded him to fit us into his schedule. Also, the country’s top clarinettist in the opinion of just about everybody – Julian Stringle. And if you’re not feeling spoiled enough already, the icing on the cake is the amazing Andy Dickens on trumpet. Pastries and cakes will be available to purchase. Starts 11am. Tickets: £10. Box Office: 01273 464440

Nine Below Zero: Acoustic Duo
Ropetackle Arts Centre
Little High Street, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG
Nine Below Zero’s founding members, Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham, have gone back to their blues roots and are performing a series of intimate, acoustic concerts as a duo. These are the first ‘old style’ blues shows the pair have performed in their 35 years working together. Covering songs by legends such as Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Jimmy Reed and Slim Harpo, they will also play unplugged versions of well-known Nine Below Zero hits. The blues have been a huge inspiration for both Mark and Dennis, encouraging them both to take up music and form Nine Below Zero. Dennis said “with these shows we are really trying to get back to the stripped-down simplicity of early blues, played in its rawest form on acoustic instruments… it’s a little daunting for me, to be playing acoustic guitar, no hiding behind the Marshall amp!” The duo released their first album in April 2015 and have been touring in support ever since. The acoustic shows never fail to bring fans closer to the band and the musical influences that formed them. This promises to be a very special evening indeed. Starts 8pm. Tickets: £12. Box Office: 01273 464440

Rebecca Downes
Ropetackle Arts Centre
Little High Street, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG
Winner of ‘Best Female Vocalist’ and ‘Best Emerging Artist’ at the 2016 British Blues Awards. Take a really hot, tight RNB band forged from incredibly talented musicians, and front it with the phenomenal vocals of Rebecca Downes and you get an explosion of soul tinged blues from the days when RNB rocked the world. In a genre that’s overrun with pyrotechnic guitar slingers and rocking blues shouters, Rebecca is doing things her way; taking the music back to its raw basics and touching the same vibe that Ike and Tina had when it was more about the music than the relationship. In perfect synchronicity with writing partner and bandleader Steve Birkett, Rebecca’s take on the blues is not merely to sing about what brings her down, but to celebrate what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. There’s humour in there, and warmth, and the grit of a true blues artist singing from the heart. Starts 8pm. Tickets: £12. Box Office: 01273 464440
